For most journeys, Nashik is the gateway: you reach Nashik by air, rail or road, and continue to Trimbakeshwar by road. Whichever way you travel, two things matter most during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027: book your travel early, and arrive the day before an Amrut Snan, not on the morning itself. Seats and rooms fill up early for the Amrut Snan days, and roads near the ghats are restricted on those days.
This page gives the general picture. Detailed routes and the transport plan for the Mela will be published by NTKMA on this website closer to the Mela.
By air
Nashik's airport is at Ozar, outside the city. Check which cities have flights to Nashik when you plan your trip. For wider connections, the nearest major airports are Mumbai and Pune; from either, you can continue to Nashik by road or rail.
From Ozar, continue by road to Nashik or Trimbakeshwar. On the days around each Amrut Snan, allow extra time: traffic is heavy and some roads may be closed.
By rail
Nashik Road railway station is the main railhead for Nashik. It is on the main line from Mumbai and is served by trains from many parts of India. Book your tickets as early as you can, especially for the days around each Amrut Snan.
From the station you will need onward transport to Panchavati and the ghats, or to Trimbakeshwar, so plan this part before you arrive. During the Mela, expect crowds on the platforms and at the exits around the Amrut Snan days, and follow the signs and the directions of railway staff, police and volunteers.
The railway stations near Nashik are listed below with directions to each; how to travel on from them during the Mela will be published by NTKMA closer to the Mela.

By road
Nashik is linked by highways to Mumbai, Pune, Gujarat, Dhule and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and long-distance buses connect it with cities across Maharashtra and neighbouring states. For general guidance from each direction, see Routes from Major Cities. For the parking on each entry road into Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, and the nearest ghat where one is confirmed, see Directions to Ghats and Parking.
The Mela falls in the monsoon months, when roads through the hills can be wet and misty. Drive with care, take regular breaks on long journeys and do not drive when you are tired.
From Nashik to Trimbakeshwar
Trimbakeshwar is about 28 km from Nashik by road. On ordinary days, buses and taxis run between the two. During the Mela, travel between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar will be part of NTKMA's transport plan, which will be published on this website.
On Amrut Snan days the crowds at Kushavarta Tirth are very large, so if you want darshan at the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga, choose a quieter day. The First-Timer's Guide explains how the two sites fit into one trip.
What changes during the Mela
The Mela brings very large crowds to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, and the roads are managed differently, especially on Amrut Snan days.
- Traffic restrictions near the ghats. On Snan days, vehicles will be restricted near the ghats, and some roads may be closed or made one-way. Follow the official signs and the directions of the police and volunteers.
- Parking on the entry roads. Parking is planned on each road into Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, with shuttles towards the ghats. See Directions to Ghats and Parking.
- The last stretch on foot. Expect to walk from the shuttle to the ghats. Wear comfortable footwear.
- Check before you set out. Look at the live updates on this website before you leave and again on the way, as arrangements can change.
Book early, arrive the day before an Amrut Snan, and in an emergency call 112.
